Computer Science

Year 10 · National Curriculum (England)

Year 10 is the first year of GCSE Computer Science in England. Programming moves into serious territory (arrays, nested loops, subprograms with parameters, string handling and file operations) usually in Python, and students learn to trace an algorithm by hand as well as write one.

Theory covers data representation, computer architecture and the fetch-execute cycle, memory and storage, and networks. AQA, OCR, Pearson and WJEC all assess a mix of written theory and practical programming; the board pages carry the specification detail.
