Year 3 moves into genuine programming: designing, writing and debugging programs that accomplish specific goals, using sequence (steps in order), selection (if/then decisions) and repetition (loops) — the three fundamental building blocks of all programming. Children begin using logical reasoning to predict what a program will do and to find and fix errors when it doesn't behave as expected.

Work on using the internet and search technologies effectively, and understanding how networks (including the internet) work at a basic level, typically begins around this stage.
