Computer Science

GCSE Computer Science covers computer systems (hardware, software, the CPU, memory and storage), computer networks (including the internet and network security), cybersecurity, and the ethical, legal, cultural and environmental impact of computing. A substantial non-exam or practical component involves genuine programming — planning, writing, testing and refining code against a specification, typically in Python.

Algorithms and programming fundamentals (sequence, selection, iteration, data structures, searching and sorting) sit alongside data representation — binary, hexadecimal, character encoding, images and sound — as core theory content examined in written papers. Because the practical programming component carries real weight, consistent hands-on coding practice throughout the course matters as much as revising theory.
