Computer Science — Grade 2

American Curriculum · Ages 7-8

Second grade computer science introduces repetition. Students discover that a loop replaces copying the same block many times, predict what a program will do before running it, and fix programs that don't behave as expected.

They create digital work with more independence — documents, slides, drawings and simple animations — and begin organizing files sensibly. Digital citizenship extends into understanding that not everything online is true and knowing how to report a concern.

Key topics covered

  • Loops — Using repetition to make a program shorter and easier to read.
  • Algorithms — Writing precise ordered steps and predicting the outcome.
  • Debugging — Testing a program, spotting the faulty step and correcting it.
  • Creating Digital Content — Documents, slides, drawings and simple animations.
  • Organizing Files — Naming, saving and finding work in the right place.
  • Digital Citizenship — Judging whether online information is true and reporting concerns.
