Computer Science — Class 1

CBSE (Indian Curriculum) · Ages 6-7

Computer education in CBSE Class 1 introduces the machine itself. Children learn what a computer is, name its main parts — monitor, keyboard, mouse, CPU — and learn to switch a device on and off correctly and handle it with care.

They practise using a mouse to click and drag, identify keys on a keyboard, and use simple drawing and typing software. Many CBSE schools in the UAE also begin block-based coding at this stage through visual tools.

Key topics covered

  • What Is a Computer — Machines around us and what a computer can and cannot do.
  • Parts of a Computer — Monitor, keyboard, mouse and CPU, and what each one does.
  • Using a Mouse — Clicking, double-clicking and dragging with control.
  • Using a Keyboard — Finding letter, number and space keys and typing simple words.
  • Drawing & Typing — Creating simple pictures and text using basic software.
  • Care & Safe Use — Handling devices properly and healthy screen habits.
