Reading focuses on decoding simple texts accurately and beginning to read with expression, while writing introduces capital letters, full stops and simple, complete sentences.

Spoken language work — retelling stories, listening to others, and answering questions in full sentences — runs throughout, building the vocabulary and confidence that written work depends on.
