Year 7 · National Curriculum (England)
Year 7 is the transition into secondary English: students write analytical responses to both fiction and non-fiction, building the essay-writing habits GCSE will later demand. Vocabulary expands deliberately, and creative writing techniques (varying sentence length, using figurative language) are taught explicitly rather than assumed.
Grammar accuracy is consolidated rather than newly introduced at this stage — the focus shifts to applying it correctly and consistently within longer pieces of writing.
