Class 5 EVS is the final year before science becomes a separate subject. Content covers the human body's major systems, plant reproduction, animal behaviour and adaptation, and the effects of food, exercise and habits on health.

Children also study natural disasters, the environment and pollution, energy sources, travel and exploration, and India's diversity. The course begins asking for explanation and cause rather than description alone, which is what Class 6 Science assumes.
