CBSE Class 10 English (Language and Literature) is a board examination subject assessed by a single written paper covering reading, grammar, writing and literature.
Literature is drawn from the NCERT First Flight reader and the Footprints Without Feet supplementary text, and questions include short-answer, extended-answer and extract-based responses. Reading covers discursive and case-based unseen passages.
Writing is examined in strict prescribed formats, formal letter and analytical paragraph, where deviation costs marks regardless of content quality. Format discipline is one of the most efficient things to drill before the board exam.
