CBSE Class 2 English continues with the NCERT Marigold reader and moves children from decoding into reading with understanding. They read short stories and poems aloud, answer questions using details from the text, and retell what they have read in their own words.

Writing develops into short structured pieces — a few connected sentences describing a picture, an event or a person — and grammar is taught explicitly for the first time, covering nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives and simple tenses.
