Mathematics — Class 1

CBSE (Indian Curriculum) · Ages 6-7

CBSE Class 1 Mathematics follows the NCERT Maths Magic textbook and keeps everything concrete. Children count and write numbers to 100, understand what each digit means, and add and subtract single and two-digit numbers using objects, number lines and mental strategies.

Alongside number, they compare length, weight and capacity, recognise basic shapes and patterns, learn the days and months, and handle Indian currency in simple contexts. The pace is deliberately gentle — fluency and confidence with numbers matter far more at this stage than written speed.

Key topics covered

  • Numbers to 100 — Counting, reading, writing, comparing and ordering numbers.
  • Addition & Subtraction — Single and two-digit calculation using objects and number lines.
  • Shapes & Patterns — Recognising basic 2D and 3D shapes and continuing simple patterns.
  • Measurement — Comparing length, weight and capacity using everyday language.
  • Time & Money — Days, months, reading the clock, and recognising Indian currency.
  • Data Handling — Sorting objects and making simple pictorial records.
