CBSE Class 6 opens middle school mathematics and introduces the abstractions that carry through to the board exams. Students meet integers and negative numbers, work with whole numbers and playing with numbers including factors, multiples, HCF and LCM, and are introduced to algebra as a way of expressing generality.

Fractions and decimals are handled with all four operations, ratio and proportion appear for the first time, and geometry covers basic concepts, elementary shapes, symmetry and practical construction with compass and ruler.
