MYP Design in Year 1 covers digital and computing work through the design cycle — inquiring and analysing, developing ideas, creating the solution, and evaluating.

Students learn programming with block-based tools and often begin text-based code, alongside digital creation, data handling and an understanding of how computer systems work. Assessment follows the four design criteria rather than a content syllabus.

The written documentation carries as much weight as the working product: students must justify design decisions and test against criteria they set themselves, which is often the unfamiliar part for students arriving from other systems.
