Computer Science — Year 4
British Curriculum · Ages 8-9
Year 4 develops programming further: writing more complex programs using sequence, selection and repetition together, and working with variables (storing and using changing information within a program). Logical reasoning extends to explaining how simple algorithms work, not just following them.
Children also use a range of software to collect, analyse, and present data and information, connecting computing skills to other subjects.
Key topics covered
- VariablesStoring and using changing information within a program.
- Complex ProgramsCombining sequence, selection and repetition in longer programs.
- Explaining AlgorithmsDescribing how and why an algorithm works, not just using it.
- Data & InformationUsing software to collect, analyse and present data.
