Cambridge IGCSE Physics (0625/0972) is examined at Core and Extended tier, with Extended required for A Level Physics. Assessment combines multiple choice, a theory paper, and either the Alternative to Practical or a laboratory examination.
Content covers motion, forces and energy, thermal physics, waves, electricity and magnetism, nuclear physics, and space physics. Candidates work from a formula list and must select, rearrange and apply the right relationship with correct units.
Graph work carries substantial marks: drawing a line of best fit, taking a gradient, and reading values accurately are examined skills in their own right, particularly on the practical paper.
Key topics covered
- Motion, Forces & EnergySpeed, acceleration, Newton's laws, momentum, work, power and efficiency.
- Thermal PhysicsKinetic particle model, thermal expansion, specific heat and transfer of heat.
- WavesWave properties, reflection, refraction, sound and the electromagnetic spectrum.
- Electricity & CircuitsCharge, current, potential difference, resistance, circuits and safety.
- Magnetism & ElectromagnetismMagnetic fields, the motor effect, induction and transformers.
- Nuclear PhysicsAtomic structure, radioactive decay, half-life and safety precautions.
- Space PhysicsThe solar system, stars, the life cycle of stars and the expanding universe.
