Grade 4 is broadly equivalent to Year 5 British · Class 4 CBSE · PYP IB
American Curriculum · Ages 9-10
Grade 4 extends multiplication to multi-digit numbers and introduces long division. Fractions become more demanding: understanding equivalence, comparing fractions with different denominators, and adding/subtracting fractions with the same denominator. Decimal notation for fractions is introduced.
Geometry covers angle measurement and classification, and students identify factors and multiples of whole numbers — early number theory that supports later fraction work.
