Fourth grade expects students to support every claim with evidence from the text. Comprehension covers theme, summarizing, comparing points of view, integrating information from two texts on the same topic, and distinguishing fact from opinion.

Writing produces multi-paragraph pieces with an introduction, body and conclusion, and students begin short research projects that require taking notes and citing a source. Grammar covers relative pronouns, progressive verb tenses, prepositional phrases and commonly confused words.
