Year 9 · Curriculum for Wales
Year 9 science completes Key Stage 3 and in most Welsh schools begins GCSE content. Biology covers cells and transport, enzymes, inheritance, evolution and ecosystems; chemistry covers bonding, the mole, rates, energy changes and organic chemistry basics.
Physics covers forces and motion with equations, energy calculations, electricity, waves, radioactivity and space. Required practicals in the WJEC style are introduced, with formal attention to accuracy, precision and uncertainty.
Schools decide around this point between Double Award Science and separate Biology, Chemistry and Physics GCSEs, so confidence across all three strands keeps every option open.
