WJEC A-Level Computer Science in Wales is assessed through written units covering computer architecture, communication, data representation, programming and algorithms, together with a substantial programmed solution to a problem the learner defines.

The programmed solution carries significant weight and rewards planning far more than coding fluency. Learners are expected to define a real problem with real users, design a solution that can be traced from specification through to code, and produce testing evidence that demonstrates the finished program does what was promised. Assessment materials are available in Welsh as well as English.
