P5 · Northern Ireland Curriculum
P5 opens Key Stage 2 in Northern Ireland. Place value extends to four-digit numbers and to decimals in tenths and hundredths, and the priority for the year is knowing all times tables to 10 x 10 — and increasingly 12 x 12 — fluently, with the matching division facts.
Written methods extend to multiplying two- and three-digit numbers and to short division. Fractions and decimals are linked explicitly, and measures work covers area and perimeter, unit conversion and time problems.
Geometry adds symmetry, coordinates and translation, while handling data extends into line graphs and interpreting more complex tables. For many families in Northern Ireland this is also the year transfer-test preparation begins to be considered.
