A Level · WJEC / Eduqas

Eduqas A-Level English Literature is taken in England and is assessed through three written components and a coursework element. Students study poetry pre- and post-1900, a Shakespeare play alongside a second drama text, and unseen prose, with a comparative coursework folder completing the qualification.

The unseen prose component distinguishes Eduqas from several other boards, and it is the part students find least predictable. It rewards a secure method for approaching an unfamiliar passage under time pressure — identifying voice, structure and effect quickly rather than searching for devices — which is a skill built through repeated practice rather than through knowledge of set texts.
