Noorani Qaida

Noorani Qaida is the starting point for a child who cannot yet read Arabic script. It is a short, structured primer that teaches the twenty-eight letters in their isolated forms, then the same letters as they change shape at the beginning, middle and end of a word, and finally how they join to form readable text.

The part that genuinely needs a live teacher is makharij, the articulation points in the mouth and throat where each letter is formed. Several Arabic letters have no English equivalent and sound almost identical to an untrained ear, and a child who settles into an approximation early will carry it for years. In a 1-on-1 lesson the teacher hears each attempt and corrects it in the moment, which is the whole reason this stage is taught live rather than from an app.
