Meaning behind the recitation: tafseer, seerah and the fundamentals.
Islamic Studies at RSIS is offered alongside recitation classes rather than instead of them, and covers the meaning behind what a child is reading. It includes tafseer, the explanation of the Quran's verses; seerah, the life of the Prophet (peace be upon him); and the fundamentals of belief and practice, all taught at a level appropriate to the child's age.
This programme is optional and deliberately so. Some families want recitation only; others want their child to understand what they recite, particularly once a student has been in Nazra or Hifz for a while and starts asking what the words mean. Lessons stay age-appropriate and factual, and teachers keep to the fundamentals that families across different backgrounds hold in common rather than entering areas of scholarly difference.
