Mathematics — Class 11

CBSE (Indian Curriculum) · Ages 16-17

CBSE Class 11 Mathematics is the foundation of the senior secondary science and commerce streams, and the step up from Class 10 is substantial. Content covers sets, relations and functions, trigonometric functions, complex numbers, linear inequalities, permutations and combinations, and the binomial theorem.

It continues into sequences and series, straight lines, conic sections, three-dimensional geometry, limits and derivatives, statistics and probability. Calculus arrives here for the first time and assumes complete algebraic fluency.

Class 11 is internally assessed but its content is assumed entirely by Class 12 and by JEE preparation, so weaknesses left here surface directly in the board year.

Key topics covered

  • Sets, Relations & Functions — Set operations, types of relations, functions and their graphs.
  • Trigonometric Functions — Radians, identities, general solutions and trigonometric equations.
  • Complex Numbers & Inequalities — Argand plane, modulus, argument and solving linear inequalities.
  • Permutations, Combinations & Binomial — Counting principles, arrangements, selections and binomial expansion.
  • Sequences & Series — Arithmetic and geometric progressions, means and special series.
  • Coordinate & 3D Geometry — Straight lines, circles, parabola, ellipse, hyperbola and 3D coordinates.
  • Limits & Derivatives — Intuitive limits, first principles differentiation and rules of derivatives.
  • Statistics & Probability — Measures of dispersion, and axiomatic probability.
