Year 5 introduces forces properly: gravity, air resistance, water resistance and friction, and how levers, pulleys and gears make tasks easier. Earth and space work covers the solar system, the Earth's rotation causing day and night, and the phases of the Moon.

Materials work covers reversible changes (like dissolving) versus irreversible changes (like burning), and biology extends to life cycles of humans, animals and plants, including the changes that happen during puberty.
