Mathematics — Grade 7

American Curriculum · Ages 12-13

Grade 7 extends ratios into proportional relationships, and students work fluently with all rational numbers — integers, fractions and decimals — combined in the same problems. Multi-step ratio and percent problems (tax, tips, markups, discounts) become common.

Algebra grows into multi-step linear equations, and geometry covers scale drawings, circles (circumference and area), and angle relationships in geometric figures. Probability is introduced through simple and compound events.

Key topics covered

  • Proportional Relationships — Identifying and working with directly proportional quantities.
  • Rational Number Operations — Combining integers, fractions and decimals fluently.
  • Percent Applications — Tax, tips, markups, discounts and multi-step percent problems.
  • Linear Equations — Multi-step equations and inequalities.
  • Geometry & Probability — Scale drawings, circles, angle relationships, and simple probability.
