Grade 5 · Canadian Curriculum (General)
Grade 5 asks students to comment on how a writer achieves an effect, not only on what a text says. Comprehension covers point of view, bias, how an author supports a position, and drawing on more than one source.
Writing covers a full range of forms with attention to audience and purpose, and students learn to revise for word choice, sentence variety and cohesion. Grammar covers complex sentences, verb tense consistency and punctuation for lists and parenthetical detail.
