Grade 4 · Canadian Curriculum (General)

Grade 4 expects students to justify what they say about a text with evidence from it. Comprehension covers theme, summarizing, comparing texts on the same subject, and distinguishing fact from opinion.

Writing produces multi-paragraph pieces for different audiences and purposes, and students begin short research tasks requiring notes and a source. Media literacy, a distinct strand in most Canadian provinces, looks at how media texts are constructed and who they are aimed at.
