Computer Science

Year 8 · Curriculum for Wales

Year 8 computing extends programming into data structures and modular code. Pupils work with lists and arrays, write functions with parameters and return values, handle strings and files, and validate user input.

Systems content covers the fetch-execute cycle, types of memory and storage, operating systems, and network topologies and protocols. Pupils also learn binary arithmetic and hexadecimal.

Database and web development units introduce relational tables, SQL queries, and HTML and CSS — the practical groundwork for the GCSE Computer Science and Digital Technology courses offered in Wales.
