Mathematics

WJEC A-Level Mathematics is the standard route for learners in Wales and, unlike the reformed linear A-Levels in England, it retains a modular AS and A2 structure: the AS taken in Year 12 contributes to the final A-Level grade rather than being a separate qualification. Content covers Pure Mathematics with Statistics and Mechanics.

That modular structure changes how the two years should be planned. AS results in Year 12 count towards the final grade and can be resat, so a weak first year is recoverable but a neglected one is expensive. Learners in Wales may also sit the qualification through the medium of Welsh, and WJEC provides assessment materials in both languages.
