Year 6 · Curriculum for Wales
Year 6 science covers classification of living things into broad groups, the circulatory system and the effects of diet, exercise, drugs and lifestyle on the body, and how nutrients and water are transported within animals.
Evolution and inheritance are introduced through fossils, adaptation and natural selection. Light is studied as travelling in straight lines to explain shadows and reflection, and electricity work covers the effect of voltage on circuits and recognised circuit symbols.
Enquiry work at this level expects pupils to plan and justify their approach, control variables, and report conclusions with the degree of confidence the evidence actually supports — the exact skills Year 7 science assumes.
