Year 5 science covers life cycles and reproduction in plants and animals, human development from birth to old age, and the properties and changes of materials including dissolving, separating, and reversible and irreversible changes.
Earth and space introduces the solar system, the movement of the Earth and Moon, and how day, night and the seasons arise. Forces work covers gravity, air resistance, water resistance, friction, and levers, pulleys and gears.
Pupils are expected to plan different types of enquiry, take repeat readings for accuracy, and use scientific evidence to support or refute an idea.
