Science

Year 4 science covers living things and their habitats through classification keys, food chains and the effect of environmental change. Human biology focuses on the digestive system and teeth.

States of matter are studied properly — solids, liquids and gases, melting, freezing, evaporation, condensation and the water cycle. Sound work covers vibration, pitch and volume, and electricity introduces simple series circuits, conductors, insulators and switches.

Pupils are expected to plan investigations independently, choose their own equipment, and present findings in bar charts and line graphs.
