National 4
National 4 Computing Science has two units — Software Design and Development, and Information System Design and Development — plus an Added Value Unit assignment, all assessed internally.
Pupils design, write and test programs in a text-based language such as Python, using variables, selection, iteration and simple arrays. The information systems unit covers database and web page design, data representation, hardware, networks and security.
Because assessment is continuous and practical, the most useful support is working through real coding tasks and learning to test and document them properly.
