National 4
National 4 Chemistry is built from three units — Chemical Changes and Structure, Nature's Chemistry, and Chemistry in Society — assessed internally, plus an Added Value Unit investigation.
Pupils study rates of reaction, atomic structure and bonding, acids and bases, hydrocarbons and everyday consumer products, metals, plastics and fertilisers. Calculations are kept straightforward; the focus is on explaining what happens in a reaction and why it matters practically.
Practical technique and safe working are assessed throughout, so hands-on familiarity with apparatus and clear observation recording are as important as the written content.
