Advanced Higher Chemistry covers Inorganic and Physical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Instrumental Analysis, and Researching Chemistry, assessed by an SQA exam plus an extended project.

Topics include electromagnetic radiation and atomic spectra, quantum numbers and electron configuration, transition metals and complexes, chemical equilibria, reaction kinetics and rate equations, thermodynamics, stereochemistry, organic synthesis and spectroscopic analysis.

The mathematical demand — rate equations, thermodynamic calculations and quantitative analysis — is significantly higher than at Higher, and the project requires genuine laboratory technique. Both respond well to targeted, expert one-to-one support.
