Second Level · Curriculum for Excellence
Computing Science at Second Level moves from blocks toward real computational thinking. Pupils design and build more ambitious programs using variables, conditionals (if/else), loops and user input, and start to break a problem down into parts before writing any code.
They also learn how computers and networks actually work — inputs and outputs, storage, how the internet moves data — and how information is represented digitally. Many pupils meet their first lines of text-based code, often Python, at the end of this level.
Digital literacy work covers evaluating online information, understanding a digital footprint, and using software responsibly. This is the level that makes the S1 to S3 computing curriculum feel familiar rather than new.
