Year 8 computing establishes the foundations for GCSE. Pupils learn computational thinking — decomposition, abstraction and algorithm design with flowcharts and pseudocode — and put it into practice in a text-based language, usually Python.

Computer systems work covers hardware, input and output, storage, binary representation of numbers and text, and how networks and the internet function.

Digital literacy and e-safety are treated seriously: strong passwords, phishing, digital footprint, and the legal and ethical side of using other people's data and content.
