Mathematics

Year 11 in Northern Ireland is the first GCSE year and the start of Key Stage 4. CCEA GCSE Mathematics uses a tiered unit structure — Foundation, Higher and a completion unit — so unit entries taken during Year 11 already contribute to the final grade.

Content includes algebraic manipulation, quadratics, simultaneous equations, straight-line and quadratic graphs, trigonometry, circle properties, similarity, probability and statistics, alongside the applied number and measures work that runs through every paper.

Because units are sat during the course rather than only at the end, falling behind early is harder to recover from. Structured support in Year 11 is usually about clearing the specific blocking topics before the first unit entry.
