CCEA GCSE Mathematics is the qualification most learners in Northern Ireland take, and its unit-based structure is distinctive: candidates sit two units, with tier options — Foundation, Higher and a completion unit — that allow entry to be matched to a realistic target grade.

Content covers number and algebra, geometry and measures, and handling data. Higher tier adds quadratics, algebraic proof, advanced trigonometry, circle theorems, histograms and conditional probability; Foundation tier focuses on securing core number, ratio, algebra, geometry and statistics.

Because units are entered during the course rather than all at the end, tier and timing decisions matter more than in a linear specification. A tutor familiar with the CCEA structure can help make those decisions well and target the specific unit content that counts.
