Chemistry

A Level · CCEA

CCEA A-Level Chemistry in Northern Ireland runs modularly, with AS units covering basic concepts in physical and inorganic chemistry and further physical and organic chemistry, and A2 continuing into periodic trends, thermodynamics, electrochemistry, organic synthesis and analytical chemistry. Practical assessment units are examined separately at both AS and A2.

Those practical units mean technique is graded, not just described: accurate titration, correct recording to appropriate precision, and sound judgement about the limiting source of error all carry marks directly. On the written side, A2 thermodynamics and electrochemistry are where students most often need support, since both require confident handling of sign conventions that are easy to reverse under exam pressure.
