Mathematics

P7 is the final primary year in Northern Ireland and the consolidation year before post-primary school. Pupils work with all four operations on integers and decimals, apply order of operations, and use long division confidently.

Fractions, decimals, percentages and ratio are used interchangeably in multi-step problems. Algebra is introduced formally — simple formulae, expressions with unknowns and linear sequences. Geometry covers area of triangles and parallelograms, volume of cuboids, angles in shapes and all four quadrants of the coordinate grid.

Many P7 pupils have already sat their transfer tests by the autumn, so the rest of the year is genuinely about readiness for Year 8. Closing remaining gaps now prevents them resurfacing at Key Stage 3.
