P5 World Around Us studies living things and their habitats using classification keys, food chains, and the effects of environmental change. Human biology focuses on the digestive system and teeth.

States of matter are covered properly — solids, liquids and gases, melting, freezing, evaporation, condensation and the water cycle. Sound work covers vibration, pitch and volume, and electricity introduces simple series circuits, conductors, insulators and switches.

Pupils plan investigations more independently, choose their own equipment, and present findings in bar charts and line graphs rather than in writing alone.
