P5 · Northern Ireland Curriculum
P5 Language and Literacy expects pupils to read a wider range of texts independently and to justify their views with reference to what they have read. Comprehension introduces summarising and comparing how two texts treat the same subject.
Writing sustains structure across several paragraphs, with fronted adverbials, expanded noun phrases and apostrophes for possession taught explicitly. Pupils learn to edit and genuinely improve a draft rather than only proofread it.
Talking and listening work includes explaining, persuading and taking part in structured discussion — assessed strands in their own right in the Northern Ireland Curriculum.
