P3 · Northern Ireland Curriculum
P3 is the first year of Key Stage 1 in Northern Ireland and marks a step up in formality. Place value extends to hundreds, mental strategies for addition and subtraction are developed deliberately, and written methods are introduced.
Multiplication and division begin with the 2, 5 and 10 times tables alongside the language of grouping and sharing. Fractions cover halves and quarters of shapes and quantities, and measures work uses standard units for length, weight, capacity and time.
Handling data moves into tally charts, pictograms and block graphs, with children asked to answer questions from their own data rather than simply produce a chart.
