Grade 6 is the final elementary year in most Canadian provinces and a provincial assessment year in Ontario. Students read demanding fiction and non-fiction, analyze how texts are structured, evaluate an argument, and identify bias and perspective.

Writing produces sustained multi-paragraph work with a clear thesis, evidence and a conclusion, and research tasks require several sources and proper acknowledgement. Oral communication includes prepared presentations and structured group discussion.
