Grade 2 · Canadian Curriculum (General)
Grade 2 moves children from decoding into reading for meaning. They read longer words with vowel teams and common patterns, read familiar text fluently and with expression, and answer questions about what they have read using details from the page.
Writing produces short structured pieces — recounts, instructions and simple stories — organized with a beginning, middle and end. Grammar covers nouns, verbs, adjectives, question marks and the use of capital letters for names and places.
