Science

Grade 1 · Canadian Curriculum (General)

Grade 1 science in Canada is organized in most provinces around four strands: living things, structures and mechanisms, matter and energy, and Earth and space. Children study the needs and characteristics of living things, and the parts of the human body and their functions.

They explore everyday materials and objects, investigate energy in daily life — where it comes from and how we use it — and observe daily and seasonal changes in the world around them. Learning is practical, with children predicting, testing and describing what they saw.
