Grade 6 · US Curriculum Standards
Grade 6 introduces ratios and unit rates as a genuinely new way of comparing quantities, and extends division to fractions divided by fractions. Negative numbers are introduced formally, along with a first proper treatment of algebraic expressions and one-variable equations.
Statistics becomes a real strand this year — understanding variability in data sets — alongside area, surface area and volume of more complex solid shapes.
