Grade 5 · US Curriculum Standards
Grade 5 pushes fractions to full fluency: adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators, and multiplying and dividing fractions. Decimal operations extend to all four operations, and the order of operations is formalized.
Geometry introduces the coordinate plane, and volume is calculated for the first time as a measurable attribute of solid figures: connecting multiplication directly to three-dimensional space.
